CT – computed tomography (CT) is a diagnostic method that uses X-rays to create detailed, three-dimensional images of internal organs and structures. During the scanning process, the patient is placed on a table that moves slowly through a cylindrical machine, through which X-rays pass from multiple angles. A special program then combines the resulting images to create a three-dimensional image of the inside of the body. CT is used in the diagnosis of various health problems, including the detection of tumors, traumatic injuries, blood clots and other conditions. It is important to note that CT uses X-rays, which can represent a certain dose of radiation, so its use must be carefully considered in relation to the benefits and risks.

CT examination of the foot

CT examination of the foot is a diagnostic procedure used to obtain detailed images of all existing internal structures of the foot using X-rays and computer image processing.
Before the examination, the patient usually lies on their back on a movable table, and the foot is placed in a special fixation device to ensure stability and image precision. Then the movable table is slowly inserted into the CT device, which emits a series of X-rays through the foot. Sensors on the other side of the CT device record the amount of radiation passing through the foot tissues and convert it into digital images that are processed into 2D or 3D images on the computer.
CT examination of the foot can be used to diagnose various conditions, including bone fractures, tumors, arthritis, tendon and nerve inflammation, and bone and joint deformities. It can also be used to monitor treatment progress and assess postoperative conditions.

Procedure details

CT examination of the foot usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, and the patient may be given contrast medium for better visualization of blood vessels and other structures.   • Morton’s neuroma – a condition that occurs when the nerve between the third and fourth toes is compressed, causing pain, numbness, or tingling in the front of the foot.
  • Hallux valgus (bunions) – deformity of the big toe that can cause pain and swelling, and sometimes walking problems.
  • Metatarsalgia syndrome – pain and inflammation in the front of the foot, usually due to excessive pressure on the metatarsal bones.
  • Achilles tendon – a condition that occurs when the Achilles tendon on the back of the foot becomes inflamed or strained, causing pain and swelling in the heel.
  • Osteoarthritis – a degenerative disease that causes cartilage wear in foot joints, leading to pain and limited movement.
  • Neuropathy – a condition that occurs when nerves in the foot are damaged, causing numbness, tingling, or pain in the foot.
