A Chlamydia smear is an analysis that allows for the accurate detection of infection with the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis, one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infections. Early detection of the infection is crucial to prevent reproductive health complications. Testing is usually done from a cervical or vaginal swab, and can be combined with a Pap test (more about the Pap test) or a regular gynecological examination (more about the gynecological examination).
A swab is taken from the cervix or vaginal mucosa with a sterile swab, which is sent to the laboratory. The procedure is painless and takes only a few minutes.
Early detection of Chlamydia infection allows for timely treatment, prevention of complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease or fertility problems, and reduction of the risk of spreading the infection to a sexual partner. At the Atrium Polyclinic, tests are performed professionally, with a clear explanation of the results and instructions for further procedures.
