Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is considered the primary cause of invasive cervical cancer and its precursor lesions. HPV is a very common infection transmitted through genital contact, and most infected individuals are often unaware of the infection because the virus usually causes no initial symptoms.
In some individuals, symptoms may appear several weeks or months after sexual contact with an infected person. The most common signs are warts (condylomas) of various sizes and shapes in the genital area, although such changes often remain unnoticed.
HPV genotyping is performed using molecular PCR diagnostics, which enables precise detection of the virus and identification of its genotype. The analysis includes 14 high-risk and 2 low-risk HPV genotypes, providing a detailed and reliable diagnosis.
The sample for analysis is taken by cervical or urethral swab, and the test does not require special preparation by the patient. The results are expressed as positive or negative, which facilitates further medical monitoring and decisions regarding additional diagnostics or treatment.
