Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation
Physical therapy and rehabilitation are key elements of recovery and improvement of physical functions for patients recovering from injuries, surgeries,…

Elbow ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless, and highly precise diagnostic method that enables detailed visualization of soft tissues around the elbow joint. During the ultrasound examination, tendons, muscles, ligaments, bursae, nerves, and any presence of inflammation or injury are assessed. Due to its safety, elbow ultrasound can be performed on all patients, without radiation exposure and without special preparation.
Elbow ultrasound is most commonly performed for pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion. Patients typically present due to suspicion of so-called tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow, inflammatory tendon changes, swelling, cysts, or injuries occurring during sports activities or sudden movements. The examination is particularly useful when precise localization of inflammation or injury is needed, as well as for monitoring therapy effects.
Elbow ultrasound provides exceptionally detailed insight into structures not visible on X-ray. During the examination, inflammatory tendon changes (tendinitis, tendinosis), tendon rupture, nerve irritation, bursitis presence, tendon thickening from chronic overload, and joint fluid can be identified. For athletes and physically active individuals, ultrasound is the fastest method for injury assessment without waiting and without need for additional imaging.
The examination lasts on average 10–15 minutes. The patient sits or lies down, and the radiologist moves the ultrasound probe over the anterior, lateral, and medial parts of the elbow. During the examination, the patient may gently move the arm to better assess tendon condition and their response to movement. Findings are obtained immediately, enabling quick decisions on further steps.
Elbow ultrasound enables rapid diagnosis without radiation, immediately provides information on inflammation and injuries, is precise for treatment process monitoring, and can be repeated unlimited times. Due to its availability and high accuracy, it is often the first choice for elbow pain and issues resulting from joint overuse.
At Poliklinika Atrijum, elbow ultrasound is performed by an experienced radiologist using a modern high-resolution device. The examination is suitable for both adults and children, and results are available immediately after imaging. For all patients experiencing pain, swelling, or reduced range of motion, elbow ultrasound is the fastest and most reliable way to identify the cause of complaints.
