Sanitary Examinations and Sanitary Booklets

Sanitary examinations are mandatory under the Law on Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases (“Official Gazette of FBiH”, No. 29/05), which prescribes compulsory health checks for certain employee categories and others, as well as the Regulation on the Manner of Conducting Health Examinations for Persons Under Health Supervision (“Official Gazette of FBiH”, No. 20/08). These laws ensure infectious disease prevention, public health protection, and proper documentation through sanitary booklet issuance.

Types of Sanitary Examinations at Atrium Polyclinic and Laboratories

Sanitary Examinations at Atrium Laboratories
At laboratory sites (Skenderija 5 and Rustem-pašina 19), examinations involve only laboratory analyses. These target individuals not requiring physician review, using throat/nasal swab and stool sample.

• Bacteriological throat/nasal swab examination (for Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-positive)
• Bacteriological stool examination (for Salmonella and Shigella)
• Microbiological stool examination (for intestinal protozoa)

Sanitary Examinations at Atrijum Polyclinic

At the polyclinic (Džemala Bijedića 185), all sanitary examinations occur, including physician reviews. Beyond lab analyses, pulmonary tuberculosis physician examination and, if needed, chest X-ray are performed.

These are mandatory for workers in educational/child/youth institutions (e.g., kindergartens, schools, children’s homes) and healthcare personnel.

Categories Requiring Sanitary Examinations

Mandatory for those in industries with elevated infectious disease transmission risk, per the Law:

• Food industry employees (food production/sales, hospitality, bakers, butchers, retailers)
• Educational/child/youth institution staff (kindergartens, schools, children’s homes, nurseries)
• Healthcare workers/institutions (birthing/pediatric departments, hospitals)
• Beauty/wellness salon staff (hairdressers, cosmetologists, masseurs, pedicurists, manicurists)
• Pharmaceutical/medical product production/distribution/sales workers
• Hygiene product production/distribution workers
• Mandatory trainees in listed roles (students, interns)

What Sanitary Examination Includes

Comprises phases tailored to job type/legal requirements:

Laboratory Examinations:

• Bacteriological throat/nasal swab (for Staphylococcus aureus)
• Bacteriological stool (for Salmonella/Shigella)
• Microbiological stool (for intestinal protozoa)

Physician Examination:

• Skin/mucous membrane check for purulent, fungal, or parasitic conditions
• Pulmonary tuberculosis physician exam and chest X-ray (for specific categories like education/healthcare workers)

Examination Process

Bring stool samples per instructions. On-site throat/nasal swabs collected. Post-examination, receive confirmation of initiated sanitary exam proving commencement, issued immediately.

After 3-5 days, collect sanitary booklet, official document confirming completion of required health supervision.
