Poliklinika Atrijum RTG dijagnostika

X-ray of the lower leg

RTG (X-ray) diagnostics is one of the oldest and most commonly used diagnostic methods in medicine. It is a technique that uses electromagnetic radiation in the form of X-rays to obtain images of internal body structures. RTG diagnostics is non-invasive and quick, making it useful in diagnosing various diseases and conditions. In RTG diagnostics, the patient stands, lies, or sits in front of the X-ray machine, and the body is exposed to a small amount of ionizing radiation. X-rays pass through the body and create an image on a special film or digital sensor located on the other side of the patient. Images can show bones, internal organs, and soft tissues. RTG diagnostics is relatively inexpensive and quick and is available in almost all hospitals and medical institutions. However, exposure to ionizing radiation can be harmful, especially with frequent repetition of the procedure. Therefore, it is usually avoided in diagnosing pregnant women and children, and other, safer diagnostic methods are applied.

What is Lower Leg RTG?

RTG of the lower leg is a diagnostic imaging examination used to assess the condition of bones, joints, and soft tissues in the lower leg area. This examination is typically used to diagnose fractures, arthritis, infections, tumors, and other conditions.

Procedure Details

During lower leg RTG, the patient lies on the X-ray table while the image is taken. The patient may need to turn the leg in different directions to obtain different perspectives. This examination usually takes only a few minutes.

Pain Level

Lower leg RTG is not a painful medical procedure. The patient may feel slight pressure while the image is being taken, but the overall procedure is generally not painful.

Preparation Required

In most cases, there is no special preparation for lower leg RTG. However, the patient should remove all metal objects from the area being imaged to prevent interference with the X-rays.

Result Interpretation

Results of lower leg RTG are interpreted by a radiologist, who will assess the condition of bones, joints, and soft tissues in the lower leg area. Results are usually provided to the doctor who requested the examination, who will interpret the findings and provide a diagnosis.

RTG diagnostics is relatively inexpensive and quick and is available in almost all hospitals and medical institutions. However, exposure to ionizing radiation can be harmful, especially with frequent repetition of the procedure. Therefore, it is usually avoided in diagnosing diseases in pregnant women and children, and other, safer diagnostic methods are applied. With the rapid advancement of technology, there are other more advanced diagnostic methods that are safer and provide better image quality than RTG diagnostics. However, RTG diagnostics remains one of the basic diagnostic methods used in many situations.
