Acupuncture is a technique of traditional Chinese medicine that consists of inserting very thin needles into specific points on the body. It is believed that stimulating these points can improve the flow of energy in the body and stimulate the self-healing process.
Acupuncture is often used to treat pain, tension, and other health problems, such as:
Acupuncture can be used as a standalone treatment or as part of combined therapy, depending on the type and severity of the health problem. It is important to note that acupuncture is not recommended for everyone, particularly individuals with blood disorders, coagulation problems, autoimmune disorders, or pregnant women. Therefore, consultation with a medical professional is always recommended before starting acupuncture treatment.
Vital energy (Qi) flows through the body via meridians, consisting of 12 paired symmetrical meridians and 8 extraordinary meridians. Meridians connect the internal organs with the body surface. By inserting needles into meridian points on the skin surface, bodily energy is corrected and harmonized, while pathogenic factors are expelled. In this way, the immune system is strengthened, circulation is improved, hormones are regulated, energy levels increase, and stress is reduced.
This depends on the diagnosis or indication for acupuncture. Treatment begins after the acupuncturist familiarizes themselves with the patient and their medical history through conversation and review of documentation. Typically, it involves 8-12 treatments lasting 20-30 minutes each, administered 2-3 times per week.
The World Health Organization has recognized acupuncture as a treatment method and compiled a list of diseases successfully treated by this method:
Normally, the insertion of the needles does not hurt. The needles are very thin, so only a slight burning or stinging sensation is felt during insertion. Some people feel a small amount of pain or discomfort during the treatment, but this usually only lasts a few moments.
Acupuncture is safe when administered by experienced and trained practitioners. Normally, needles are disposable and sterile, so the risk of infection is very low. However, as with any medical treatment, there is a certain risk of side effects, such as bruising, bleeding or pain. That’s why it’s important to find a qualified acupuncturist and check with a medical professional before starting treatment.
The frequency of treatment depends on the type and severity of the health problem. Some problems may require one treatment per week, while others require multiple treatments per week or at shorter intervals. It is important to consult with an acupuncturist to determine the best treatment strategy.
