Gynecological examination

Gynecological examination is the basic and most important procedure in preserving a woman’s reproductive health. Its role is to enable timely recognition of changes, assessment of the health of the reproductive organs and early response, even when symptoms are not present.

At the Atrijum Polyclinic, the examination is performed by Dr. Bojan Stevanović, a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, whose work is characterized by a calm, careful and professional approach. Patients especially appreciate his availability and clear explanations during the examination, which creates a sense of security and trust.

What does a gynecological examination look like?

The examination begins with a brief interview in which the medical history, cycle course, complaints and previous findings are reviewed. This introductory part helps to tailor the examination to each patient.

This is followed by a classic gynecological examination. Using a speculum, the appearance of the vagina and cervix, the condition of the mucous membrane and any inflammatory changes are assessed. Then a bimanual (palpatory) examination is performed, with which the doctor checks the position and size of the uterus and the sensitivity of the surrounding structures. The entire procedure is performed carefully and in an atmosphere that ensures maximum comfort and discretion.

What can be revealed by the examination?

During the examination, changes in the cervix, mucous membrane, vaginal secretions, as well as early signs of inflammation or infection may be observed. Based on the findings, the doctor may recommend additional diagnostic methods such as a PAP test, colposcopy, or microbiological swabs, but only when medically justified.

Why is the review important?

Although it is usually associated with certain complaints, a gynecological examination has the greatest value as a preventive measure. Many changes occur gradually and without symptoms, and detection at an early stage almost always means better and simpler treatment. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out an inspection at least once a year.
