Trichoscopy

Trichoscopy is a non-invasive, digital diagnostic method used for analyzing the condition of hair and scalp. This examination allows the dermatologist, using a special device – the trichoscope – under high magnification, to obtain a precise picture of the causes of hair loss, scalp changes, and other disorders in hair growth and quality.

When to have trichoscopy?

Trichoscopy is recommended for everyone experiencing:

What does the examination involve?

Trichoscopy is performed using a handheld digital microscope placed directly on the scalp. The image is displayed on a screen, and the dermatologist magnifies areas of interest to analyze:

• Hair density and number of hairs per cm²
• Hair thickness and diameter
• Presence of miniaturized hairs (sign of androgenetic alopecia)
• Signs of inflammation, dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, or psoriasis
• Condition of follicles and scalp skin

The examination is completely painless, takes about 15–20 minutes, and requires no preparation.
